Please see below our frequently asked questions, if you have any other questions or queries please contact us.

Q. How long is a DBS valid for? How do I know if I have a current one?

Since June 2014, the Disclosure Barring Service has introduced the Update Service. This incurs an annual subscription of £13 a year, means that you can take your certificate to any organisation and is valid for life (providing that you keep the subscription up.) Applicants only have a 19 day window to apply for this service from when the certificate has been printed so make sure that you are quick!

Q. What is expected from me at schools? (marking etc)

You will be expected to follow any lesson plans that have been left by the teacher and to complete all marking at the end of the day. Therefore, as a supply teacher, your typical day would start at 8am and finish at 4pm. If you are an Early Years Practitioner, we expect you to arrive 15 minutes before your booking commences.

Q. Do schools usually set work?

Nine times out of ten, schools will provide the work that you are to follow. However, there can be occasions where no work has been set, and in these instances, we would usually inform you that you will need to take something with you. Most supply teachers have a bag of tricks with story books, work sheets etc just in case they are caught out one day. Join our Facebook group for access to some amazing resources.

Q. Do I need to pay to register with you?

No! Registering with Class People is absolutely free, the only cost you may incur would be if you needed a new DBS and even then we have payment solutions available.

Q. I want to re-register with you, how do I do this?

If you have been registered with us before and would like to come back to us then please get in touch with your local office. Usually, all that is needed is an up-to-date reference but please get in touch with your consultant for them to advise you specifically.

Q. What time can I expect a call in the morning?

Class People operate a 24 hour service so that schools can call at any time of the day. Usually these calls begin around 6.30am so you could receive a call from us at any time from then. However, we do try to give you as much notice as possible so many of our teachers know where they are going the night before.

Q. How much work is available for supply teachers?

Supply Teaching work can be unpredictable depending on the time of year. Your consultant will be able to advise you as to the busiest times of the year but as a general rule, the middle of terms are a lot busier than the beginning and the end. The more flexible you can be in terms of travel times and availability the more work you are likely to pick up.

Q. How much do supply teachers get paid? / How often will I be paid?

The rate of pay for supply teachers varies depending on level of experience/feedback received from schools/CPD undertaken. If you would like an accurate daily rate, please contact your nearest office. Pay is weekly (a week in arrears) and you can choose to be paid through a choice of tax efficient schemes that are available.

Q. How do I go about accessing CPD?

We have links with key teaching schools to offer you a range of CPD courses. There are a range of courses and information available here

Q. What do I do if I am overseas qualified?

If you are Overseas Qualified you are still able to work as a Supply Teacher. However, you may need a NARIC certificate depending on where you qualified. Please visit the website for more information

Q. Can I work part time or is supply only for those who can work full time? / What if I am not available on a particular day?

Supply gives teachers flexibility to decide how often you work. Many teachers are only available part time and this is absolutely fine. All that we ask is that you keep us up to date with any changes in your availability.
